Adding Payment Methods

Complete guide to adding and managing payment methods for your C-Band Mailbox account, including supported card types, security features, and multi-currency billing for Canada and the United States.

Adding Payment Methods to Your C-Band Mailbox Account

Managing your payment methods is a critical part of maintaining uninterrupted mailbox service. Whether you are a renter in Canada or the United States, C-Band Mailbox makes it simple to add, manage, and secure your payment information. This guide walks you through every step of the process, from adding your first card to managing multiple payment methods across currencies.

Supported Payment Methods

C-Band Mailbox accepts a wide range of payment methods to accommodate renters across North America. The following card types are currently supported:

  • Visa (credit and debit)
  • Mastercard (credit and debit)
  • American Express (credit only)
  • Debit cards with Visa or Mastercard logo

All payments are processed securely through Stripe, a globally trusted payment processor. Your full card numbers are not stored on C-Band servers. Instead, Stripe tokenizes your payment information and stores it in their PCI DSS Level 1 compliant infrastructure, which is the highest level of security certification available in the payments industry.

How to Add a Payment Method

Adding a payment method to your account is straightforward. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your C-Band Mailbox dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Billing > Payment Methods.
  3. Click the "Add Payment Method" button.
  4. Enter your card details: card number, expiration date, CVC, and billing address.
  5. Click "Save" to securely store your payment method.
  6. Your new card will appear in the list of saved payment methods.

If this is your first payment method, it will automatically be set as your default payment method. All subscription charges and per-action fees will be billed to your default card unless you specify otherwise.

Setting a Default Payment Method

If you have multiple cards on file, you can designate which one serves as your primary billing method:

  1. Go to Settings > Billing > Payment Methods.
  2. Locate the card you want to set as default.
  3. Click the three-dot menu next to the card.
  4. Select "Set as Default".

Your default payment method is used for all automatic charges, including monthly subscription fees, scan fees, forwarding fees, and any other service charges that appear on your bill.

Managing Multiple Payment Methods

C-Band Mailbox allows you to store multiple payment methods on your account. This is particularly useful for:

  • Business renters who want to separate personal and business charges.
  • Backup payment in case your primary card is declined or expired.
  • Cross-border renters who may have cards in different currencies.

To remove a payment method, click the three-dot menu next to the card and select "Remove". Note that you cannot remove your default payment method without first setting another card as default, and you must always have at least one active payment method on file while your subscription is active.

Currency and Billing by Country

Your billing currency is determined by the country of your mailbox operator location:

  • Canada: All charges are billed in Canadian Dollars (CAD), as outlined in our Terms & Conditions Schedule A, Section A7.
  • United States: All charges are billed in US Dollars (USD), as outlined in our Terms & Conditions Schedule B, Section B10.

If your credit card is denominated in a different currency than your billing currency, your card issuer may apply a foreign exchange conversion fee. Check with your bank or card issuer for their specific foreign transaction policies.

Security and PCI Compliance

The security of your payment information is our top priority. Here is how we protect your financial data:

  • Payment Processor Compliance: All payment processing is handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified service provider. C-Band does not directly process, store, or transmit cardholder data.
  • Tokenization: Your actual card numbers are not stored on C-Band servers. Stripe replaces them with secure tokens.
  • Encryption: All data transmitted between your browser and our servers uses TLS 1.2+ encryption.
  • Fraud Detection: Stripe employs machine learning to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions in real time.

We strongly recommend enabling two-factor authentication on your account for an additional layer of security when managing payment methods and other sensitive account settings.

What Happens When a Payment Fails

If a payment attempt fails (for example, due to an expired card, insufficient funds, or a bank decline), the following process occurs:

  1. Dashboard notice: The failed charge and your open balance appear in your dashboard under Billing. If your card asks for extra verification, you also receive an e-mail.
  2. Automatic retry: The system will attempt to process the payment again within 24-48 hours.
  3. Grace period: You have a 7-day grace period to update your payment method before any service interruption.
  4. Account status: If the payment issue is not resolved within the grace period, your account access may be paused as described in our Terms & Conditions Section 6.6.

To avoid service interruptions, we recommend keeping your payment information up to date at all times. See our guide on updating payment information for detailed instructions on replacing expired or outdated cards.

Tips for Managing Payment Methods

  • Set calendar reminders for card expiration dates so you can update your payment method before it expires.
  • Use a dedicated card for your mailbox subscription to simplify expense tracking, especially for business use.
  • Keep a backup card on file to prevent service interruptions if your primary card is compromised or blocked.
  • Review your invoices regularly by visiting the invoices section to ensure all charges are accurate.
